February 2018

Principal’s Message

There is a lot happening at Brainard for the spring semester! Our Local School Leadership Council is planning lots of fun activities for our students, and February will be an inspirational month!

We begin this month of love by showing love and kindness to others through our Kindness Project, spearheaded by Psychiatric Social Worker Johanna Johnston. Our students will become Secret Agents of Kindness doing random acts for others.

One of those random acts will be another new program, Valentines for the Elderly, in which students will make valentines to give to our Lake View Terrace senior citizens in retirement homes. We will have boxes around the main office to drop off any homemade valentines. Please encourage your child to make valentines and bring joy into the lives of the elderly. And, in return, they will receive a warmth and joy in their own hearts.

As part of Black History Month, we will have a Black History Day in which we will ask students to dress up as an important figure in Black History. Students will also attend an assembly and learn about Biddy Mason, who went from slavery to riches in

the Wild West!  Her story is amazing, and

is an inspiration to all!

We are having our chocolate fund-raiser

beginning on the 6th and selling Valentine

grams on the 5th.  Money raised from these

fund-raisers goes for assemblies and

field trips. Our K-2 have planned field trips

to the Los Angeles Zoo and California

Science Center in the spring!

Please be sure your child is at school at 7:55

a.m. Students must be in their seats in

the classroom to begin the day promptly

at 8 a.m.

Also, please remember not to drive into

the staff parking lot. Some have been

driving the wrong way, which

is a safety concern

“Kindness in words creates confidence.

Kindness in thinking creates profoundness.

Kindness in giving creates love.”

May all our actions be guided by

kindness.

Positive Behavior Tip

Redirect your child’s behavior! If you have a child who doesn’t respond when you say, ”no,”  offer a positive behavior to replace the misbehavior. For example, if your child is misbehaving at the market, enlist his/her help in picking out an item you need!
